Peter Logan personifies the new wave of winemakers from the Central Ranges of NSW who are pioneering and forging ahead with interesting varieties from Orange and Mudgee. The Weemala range, which is made up of 3 reds and 3 whites displays what both Peter and Orange and Mudgee have to offer. Weemala is an aboriginal word for ‘good view’ and the name of Logan’s vineyard in the Central Ranges of NSW. As the birds that live there and appear on the Weemala labels can testify, it does have a bloody good view.
Logan wines is the Mudgee based operation of former Sydney Process Chemist Peter Logan and his wife Hannah, producing wines from both Mudgee and Orange fruit in a range of styles. Logan wines was first setup in 1997 and has evolved steady over the years, with a stylish new cellar door setup on the highway into Mudgee only recently. Peter Logan had two ambitions, to make great wine and great cheese. To be honest we are pleased he concentrated on the former because his wines are imbued with character and delicacy. The Logan brand has cleverly put Mudgee back on the map by producing a wide range of wines that over deliver on value and flavour.
We highly recommend his Weemala Pinot Gris; white gold in colour, and has aromas of fresh pear, orange and honeysuckle with white peach and nougat flavours before a long lemony finish, or the juicy Weemala Merlot; aromas of black olive, violets and woody herbs with a full palate of plum, dark berries and dark chocolate and a long dry finish.
